Meliteo Kinidio
Magnet and Muffy…The Happy Mutts Blog
While Muffy and Magnet are both
healthy and active, Muffy is getting up in age.
She is 13+ years old, and I can tell she is slowing down with certain
things. I’m still finding out things
about Muffy, the most exciting is I was able to identify her breed, thanks to
some friendly folks who came up to me on one of our walks. They happened to have a dog just like Muffy,
and when they saw her they ran right over asking all sorts of questions. They actually adopted their dog a few months
after we adopted Muffy, and we both got our companions from North Shore Animal
League on Long Island, NY. They were able to tell me her
breed. She is a Meliteo Kinidio, a
small Greek dog breed, an ancient loyal and loving breed. Such exciting news!

A Meliteo Kinidio |
Muffy is a very special dog, she has brought so much
happiness and joy to our house. We love
her crazy quirks, and she makes us all so happy. That’s why seeing her age is so
difficult. She is a bit hard of hearing
now, so when she is lying down, I make sure she sees me coming, otherwise she
jumps up suddenly when she realizes someone is there. She sleeps a lot, very sound sleep, and more
than once I have approached her dreading that she wasn’t sleeping at all. I pet her gently and she slowly wakes up,
stretches and goes about her business, either back to sleep, or outside to bark
at the same thing Magnet is barking at, usually nothing I can see…LOL Her eyes sight is failing a bit too, she
doesn’t see the snack I toss to her sometimes, but her nose is still good, and
she finds it, especially when Magnet is hovering around! But like some people we all know, there are
times I swear her eye sight is 20/20 and her hearing is perfect..Like when I
try to sneak in my room with some cookies or crackers, or a sandwich, well she
sure as heck sees me and hears me then.
She loves going for walks, though by the end of the walk her troublesome
front leg bothers her, and she limps a bit on the way home, but always with a
wagging tail, and wanting to walk more!
I try
to give Muffy some extra attention whenever possible. I dread the day when Muffy will no longer be
with us. So no matter what your dogs age
is, give them a little extra TLC when you can, you know they will return it 10
fold!
